Yahoo! is the fourth quarter and they are behind by a few billion points. They have some good players and some good plays but they need a bit of a miracle. According to the WSJ, they have named their internal turn-around initiative, “Hail Mary.”
Now they certainly have bigger fish to fry than worrying about an internal project name, but we find their choice of names indicative of their mindset. And hopes.
By definition, Hail Mary is a low percentage, time is running out, no options left, desperation play. And while understandable that the media would label their efforts a Hail Mary, the fact they called it that themselves speaks volumes about their confidence in the game plan.
